STATEMENT

I began my career as a software developer drawn to coding. There was something compelling about the ability to command something into existence using nothing but logic and language. Over time, I found myself searching for a practice that could hold not just what I knew but what I felt. That search led me to painting, not as an escape from my technical life but as an extension of it, into the parts of myself that logic had always been too impatient to reach.

 

What I make now sits at this junction of my digital and natural world. I think of it as kind of an unmasking. It has become a way of bringing my internal landscape to the surface. What interests me most is the space between what we show and what we carry. My work is an invitation to get curious about our life that is visible and the one that runs underneath it, quiet, coded and waiting to be found. A way to look inward without judgment or pressure to resolve but the quiet willingness to sit with what is hidden. It’s my attempt to make something that holds quietly the things that are hardest to say out loud.

Asmita Chopade is a Mumbai-based software developer and self-taught artist working in oils and acrylics. Born in 1997, she studied engineering from Mumbai University and has been painting alongside her career in tech since 2018. Her work has been shown in various group exhibitions across Mumbai & UK, and is held in private collections internationally.

 

Rooted in her background in technology, Asmita creates richly layered landscape paintings that hold encrypted meaning beneath the surface. Each piece is engineered around the intersection of the digital and the natural which is precise in its construction and organic in its feeling. Her work challenges viewers to look closer and get curious about the narratives they carry but rarely speak. Visually arresting and conceptually layered, her pieces are a call to pause, to unplug, and to ask the question: who are you when no one is watching?
